What makes Woolx® so ultra-soft and luxurious? Our tiny Microns do!
We’re often asked how we make merino wool garments that are so soft and comfortable. Natural sheep’s wool has been the gold standard for outdoor gear for hundreds of years, but for most of that time it was itchy, scratchy, and downright uncomfortable. Serious outdoor adventurers who required the unparalleled temperature regulating properties of wool, put up with itchy arms and scratchy heads to stay warm in the winter and cool in the heat. But now there’s no need to sacrifice comfort for performance, our Woolx® Merino Wool is the softest fabric you’ll ever wear!
But how do we do it? Well, it’s all about the micron! The extra smooth fibers of the wool from Merino sheep have given us a fabric that feels as soft and comfortable as silk or cashmere, but performs like old school wool.
A Micron is the measurement used to describe the diameter of a wool fiber. The smaller the Micron measurement, the finer and softer the wool. The finest gauge wool comes from Merino sheep, all Merino wool is considered Very Fine, meaning the fibers are smaller than 24 Microns in diameter. To give you an idea of how small that is, a human hair is on average around 100 Microns wide!
At Woolx® we go even further and use only Australian Merino Wool classified as Superfine. 18.5 Microns for our heavyweights, and an even softer 17.5 Micron wool for our midweights and lightweights.
Superfine Merino wool is as fine as cashmere, providing the softest material possible right next to your skin. These ultra slim fibers won’t poke or scratch, creating the perfect performance fabric that feels as good as it looks! Thanks to the tiny Micron fibers in Woolx® Merino you can have layers that are naturally breathable, exceptionally comfortable, and incredibly soft. The ideal fabric to wear right next to your most delicate skin!
The magic really is in our microns! And once you've experienced the ultra-smooth, soft feel of Woolx merino, you'll never want to wear anything else.
